AutoplayStopper

Effective October 15, 2026 · Extension version 1.1.0

The publisher does not collect, sell, or receive your extension data. Processing takes place in your browser or on your device.

01 / Purpose

What this extension does

Prevents unprompted HTML5 video and audio elements from autoplaying on web pages while allowing user-initiated playback clicks.

This policy applies to the AutoplayStopper Manifest V3 extension distributed by the Modulus Tools publisher.

02 / Data handling

Information used by the extension

AutoplayStopper checks media elements on webpages and reads the active tab hostname to apply your site-specific preferences. Blocked-media counts are maintained locally for the current tab.

The extension has no publisher-operated account system, advertising tracker, analytics SDK, or remote analytics endpoint. We do not use extension data to profile you or sell it to advertisers.

03 / Local storage

What stays on your device

The global blocking state and per-domain playback exceptions are saved using chrome.storage.local.

How long it is kept

Preferences remain until changed or the extension is removed. Tab-specific blocked counts are cleared when their tab closes.

04 / Permissions

Access, with a purpose

Browser permissions support the extension’s stated features. Here is why each declared permission is needed.

storage
Saves global playback preferences and per-domain exceptions locally.
tabs
Reads the active tab hostname to display and configure its playback mode.
contextMenus
Provides quick access to site playback settings.
Host access — all websites
Runs the media interceptor on webpages to prevent unprompted playback.
05 / Third parties

Network requests and data sharing

The extension does not transmit playback activity or site preferences to the publisher. The websites you visit retain their own network behavior and privacy policies.

We do not sell or share extension user data with advertising, data brokerage, or analytics providers. Extension data is used only for the disclosed features, in accordance with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

06 / Your choices

You are in control

You can change available preferences through the extension’s popup or options page and manage site access in Chrome’s extension settings. Removing the extension removes its extension storage; files you downloaded, bookmarks you created, and your system clipboard are managed separately by you and your browser or operating system.

Local extension storage is not a secure vault. Avoid copying or retaining sensitive information on a shared device. If this policy changes, we will update the effective date on this page and disclose material changes to data practices as required.

07 / Contact

Questions about your privacy?

Contact Modulus Tools at support@modulustools.com. If you email us, we receive the information you choose to include so we can respond. This correspondence is separate from the extension’s local data processing. Do not send passwords, private recordings, or sensitive browsing content.
